    • I Love This Yarn (Navy)
    • Main Stays or I Love This Yarn (White)
  • Hook Size: 5.5mm
  • Tools:
    • Stitch Marker
    • Yarn Needle
    • Row Counter
    • Measuring Tape
    • Yarn Snips or Scissors

Stitch Key:

  • Ch – Chain
  • Sc – Single Crochet
  • SC2tog – Single Crochet Two Together (video)
  • R – Row
  • St – Stitch
  • yo – Yarn Over

Notes:

  • In this Textured Stitch block, we will be using Single Crochet Two Together (SC2tog). Don’t worry; it’s easier than it sounds!
  • SC2tog Instructions:
    1. Insert hook into stitch, yo, (2 loops on the hook).
    2. Insert hook into next stitch, yo, (3 loops on the hook).
    3. Yo and pull through all 3 loops.
  • Measure at the end of Row 2 – your block should be approximately 6” wide. If it is too short, start over and add two stitches. If too wide, start over and reduce by two stitches. As long as you’re within ¼”, you’ll be fine.
  • Keep track of your rows – A row counter can be very helpful!
  • Continue crocheting until the block is about 6” tall (approximately 25 rows).

Measuring & Adjusting:

  • If the dimensions are off, refer to the Notes Section for adjustments.

Textured Stitch Block Edging:

  1. At the end of your final row, Ch1 and Sc evenly down the side of the block.
    • Try to get approximately 26 Sc along the side.
  2. In the last stitch on the side, Sc 3 into the corner and turn.
  3. Sc across the bottom of the block, Sc 3 into the next corner and turn.
  4. Sc evenly up the opposite side, aiming for 26 Sc.
  5. Sc 3 into the top corner and turn.
  6. Sc across the top and join to the first corner stitch.
  7. Measure your block – it should be close to 7” x 7”.
    • If the block is more than ¼” short, Sc around all four sides again.

Finishing:

  • Finish off and weave in your ends using a yarn needle.
  • TIP: If crocheting the sides feels tight, try using a smaller hook (4mm or 4.5mm). Just ensure you stay consistent for all your blocks!
